The Anchor Point Scotland Autumn Drinks Reception celebrates Scotland’s maritime community, strengthens industry connections and supports Stella Maris.

Anchor Point Scotland welcomed over 80 attendees from across Scottish maritime businesses and industry networks to its Autumn Drinks Reception on Thursday 8 October at SíSí Rooftop Bar, Glasgow.

The event brought together industry professionals for an evening of networking, conversation and new connections, providing a relaxed setting to strengthen relationships across Scotland’s maritime community.

With cocktails, canapés and a DJ on the decks contributing to a lively atmosphere, the reception reflected Anchor Point Scotland’s commitment to creating opportunities and bringing people together beyond traditional business settings.

The event was supported by founding partners Brookes Bell and HF and Headline Sponsor of the evening Propeller Fuels - a nationwide supplier of marine gas & oil and are looking to expand their reach further within the Scottish market with local supply and in house trucking capabilities. The backing of these trusted supporters contributes to Anchor Point Scotland’s programme of community events.

Paula Gibbons, Business Development Manager at LISW said: “It was genuinely amazing to see so many people come together for our Autumn Drinks Reception. When we started Anchor Point Scotland at the start of this year, we wanted to create something a little different, somewhere where people could genuinely relax and enjoy themselves whilst making new connections within the wider maritime community. Looking around the room on Thursday, I felt we achieved exactly that. I am incredibly grateful to Brookes Bell, HF and Propeller Fuels for believing in what we are building and bringing these events to life. It’s really is exciting to see Anchor Point grow and hopefully we can welcome the Anchor Point Scotland community to London next year for LISW27 .”

Stella Maris, the maritime charity supporting seafarers and their families around the world, was the event’s charity partner. Guests were invited to make donations in support of its incredible work.

Through its association with London International Shipping Week, the initiative also provides a link between Scotland’s maritime community and the broader shipping network.

The evening was deemed a “great success” by the event’s supporting organisations. Andrew Yarwood, Business Director, Brookes Bell, said: “As a founding partner of Anchor Point Scotland, Brookes Bell is pleased to help support the growth of this exciting initiative. The Autumn Drinks Reception was a great success and demonstrated the value of creating opportunities for the maritime community to come together beyond the working day. We’re proud to be involved from the outset and look forward to what lies ahead.”

While Steven Smart, Partner at HF, added: “It was a pleasure to support the Anchor Point Scotland Autumn drinks reception in Glasgow along with our excellent co-sponsors.  At a time of heightened risk for many involved in the maritime space, it was encouraging to note the collegiate atmosphere in the room towards addressing issues facing the industry to protect business, jobs and seafarers themselves.  The network grows from strength to strength as evidenced by the number of attendees and breadth of their expertise, and I would encourage anyone in the field who has not yet done so to get involved.”

Robert Thomson CEO, Propeller Fuels, also said the company was delighted to support the initiative and a maritime community with such a strong history, heritage and distinct identity. “As the industry continues to evolve, we believe collaboration is more important than ever. Markets work best when people come together, share ideas and work collectively to overcome challenges and create new opportunities. Events like this play an important role in strengthening those relationships, and we’re pleased to be part of it,” he added.

The Autumn Drinks Reception forms part of Anchor Point Scotland’s ongoing programme of professional and social events designed to encourage engagement, collaboration and celebrate the people and organisations that make up the maritime industry.
